Kitties & Pitties met Gabrielle Pitts and her family in the spring of 2014. They were caring for several feral kitties on their porch and were seeking assistance with TNR. Together, we were able to get all of the cats spayed/neutered and vaccinated. However, our relationship with the Pitts family was just beginning. We continued to work together to save countless other kitties. Gabb happily spent an evening helping us retrieve a frightened mother cat and her five young kittens from underneath of her neighbor’s crawlspace. On another occasion, she brought us a beautiful stray kitten that she’d rescued from underneath of a car on a busy street at 11:00 at night. We spent an evening making cat shelters at the Pitts’ household. Gabb and her family fostered multiple litters of kittens for our organization, providing them with love and socialization while they awaited their forever homes.
On August 6, 2015, Gabb was in the backseat of a car that was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling almost 90 mph. That night, the world lost a beautiful soul and kind animal advocate. This collage includes just some of the animals that Gabb helped us save. Animal rescue can be difficult. One of the things that keeps us going is the kind-hearted people that we meet. Gabb was one of those people. Her love for animals and endless compassion shined through in everything she did. Her family did not want her love for animals and passion for saving them to end on that August night. In honor of Gabb’s memory, we have established Gabrielle’s Gift, a fund dedicated to caring for animals requiring emergency medical care or specialized treatment. Gabb left us far too soon, but in her memory, she will continue to provide animals with the same love and compassion as she did in life. This is Gabrielle’s Gift to the animals.
